The Big Issue is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and creating work opportunities for people experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage.

The Big Issue is an independent, commercial magazine that publishes quality articles on a huge variety of subjects, including arts and entertainment, current affairs, street culture and lifestyle.

An independent publication, The Big Issue often does stories that other magazines and newspapers won't do. We tackle big subjects, but always retain a sense of humour and a primary interest in the experiences of people.

The Big Issue is simply a quality, general interest, street magazine - a publication that is a good read and a good deed.

The best way to buy a magazine is from a vendor

We have more than 800 vendors working around the country, with a wide range of experiences leading them to The Big Issue. This includes homelessness, long-term unemployment, intellectual and physical disability, mental illness, drug and alcohol dependency and family breakdown. Every vendor has a different story, but all are looking to improve their lives.

Big Issue vendors have the opportunity to earn an immediate income and engage meaningfully with the community. They are proudly working selling a genuine product, which is why we encourage people to always take the magazine they pay for.
