The eight finalists will take a well-earned break during the pre-finals bye weekend before the race for the flag begins on Thursday, October 1.

Thursday October 1, 2020 Port Adelaide vs Geelong at Adelaide Oval, 7:40pm (first qualifying final) Friday October 2. 2020 Brisbane vs Richmond at The Gabba, 7.50pm (second qualifying final) Saturday October 3, 2020 St Kilda vs Western Bulldogs at The Gabba, 4.40pm (second elimination final) Saturday October 3, 2020 West Coast vs Collingwood at Optus Stadium, 8.10pm (first elimination final) HOW THE AFL FINALS SYSTEM WORKS The winners of the two qualifying finals advance to host the two preliminary finals. The loser of the First Qualifying Final (Port Adelaide v Geelong Cats) hosts the winner of the First Elimination Final (West Coast Eagles v Collingwood) in the First Semi Final. The loser of the Second Qualifying Final (Brisbane Lions v Richmond) hosts the winner of the Second Elimination Final (St Kilda v Western Bulldogs) in the Second Semi Final. The winner of the First Qualifying Final (Port Adelaide v Geelong Cats) hosts the winner of the Second Semi Final (Brisbane Lions, Richmond, St Kilda or Western Bulldogs) in the First Preliminary Final. The winner of the Second Qualifying Final (Brisbane Lions v Richmond) hosts the winner of the First Semi Final (Port Adelaide, Geelong Cats, West Coast Eagles or Collingwood) in the Second Preliminary Final. The winners of the two Preliminary Finals face off in the 2020 AFL Grand Final.
