exhibition Animaze: Amazing Animals for Kids EXHIBITION RUNS FROM SAT 17 NOV 2018 - WED 23 JAN 2019 Cost Free entry For the first time, Fremantle Arts Centre presents a contemporary art exhibition specifically for kids. Animaze is about amazing animals of all sorts, where kids can wander and explore the wonderful world of animals and art. With the work of more than 40 artists, specially designed play spaces, animal story readings and hands-on kids’ workshops, Animaze is a full-on animal art safari for kids and families. Drop in and watch artist Ross Potter working on his huge, life-size drawing of every kid’s favourite elephant, Tricia from the Perth Zoo. With prints, paintings, sculpture, crochet, robotics, aquatic critters, snakes, bears, bats and budgies Animaze: Amazing Animals for Kids has it all. Opening Weekend Activities Crochet Tentacles with the Golden Wattle Hookers Sat 17 Nov | 10am-12pm | Free | All ages Learn to crochet your own tentacle to coincide with the Golden Wattle Hookers’ artwork in the exhibition. Learn simple crocheting or finger knitting techniques to create brightly coloured artworks. Open to kids & adults. Ross Potter - Tricia the Elephant Gallery Drawing Every Sat + Sun throughout the exhibition | 10am-12pm | All ages Watch art in progress as Ross Potter works on his life size drawing of Tricia the Elephant, from Perth Zoo. Ross is happy to answer any questions in these informal sessions - just pop in! Sculpting Wire Animals with Sue Ryan Sat 17 Nov | 1-3pm | $30 | 5-12 years Work with Sue Ryan and create your own wire sculpture of an animal in the exhibition - a cat, a dog or even a tiger! Learn to make a sculpture out of wire and decorate and finish it with string, twine and other bits of collected material. A fun class for kids & adults to do together. Enrol to secure your place. Joe Ong - Artist & Zookeeper Talk Sat 17 Nov | 1-2pm | Free | All ages Joe Ong, one of the exhibiting artists, will be telling tales about some of the 460 animals that feature in his 10m drawing, as well as his life as a zoo keeper in Singapore. Drawing Creatures & Monsters with Austen Mengler Sun 18 Nov | 11am-1pm | $30 | 8+ years Learn about Austen’s fantastic drawings and how he creates his imaginary creatures. Learn drawing techniques and create your own set of sketches and work on your own imaginary monster. Enrol to secure your place. Mini Animal Sculptures with Susan Flavell Sun 18 Nov | 1-3pm | $30 | 5-12 years Do you have a spirit animal - one that you long to be? Choose your spirit animal from Susan Flavell’s fantastic sculpture in the gallery. Create a mini spirit animal sculpture out of cardboard, glue, tape and string. A fun class for adults and kids to do together. Enrol to secure your place. Activities Stroller Tours Every Tue throughout the exhibition | 10:30am | Free | Mums & Bubs Come and have a tour of the exhibition with your bub, free coffee for Mums who join the tour!
